Lot's of younger drivers start off by buying an older car, especially with  6-12 months MOT, that they can use as their first car. The insurance should be cheaper as the value is less, and if you crunch the gears a few times - hey - it didn't cost much to buy and when the MOT runs out, well, just go buy another!

When you have passed your test, have a few years driving experience, your out of minimum wage, and your age puts you into the next insurance bracket, then you can go and buy that shiny 3 year old hatchback.
