The definition of an Outlaw Hot-Rod is basically any car upto the specification of a National Hot-Rod. Cars must run on a 10 slick tyre ( 8 wets are permitted ) and are an alternative to the Nationals as a good learning ground or for somewhere to race without the intensity of the National World qualifying series.
1. DESCRIPTION The only cars permitted are front engined rear wheel drive four seater saloon cars based on standard steel production shells using a windscreen aperture of original dimension occupying its original position. The minimum length for a car when originally manufactured is 11' 6". The maximum width of any car shall not be more than 73" when ready to race. Full space frame chassis are permitted and must comply with roll cage specifications. The front subframe can be constructed in the engine compartment to take wishbone front suspension system or inner wings manufactured for MacPherson struts. No reinforcing is permitted for contact purposes.
2. BODYWORK. Replacement of all body panels is permitted, provided that they retain the standard silhouette in side elevation with the exception of spoilers and air filters. Front silhouette must remain symmetrical with no radical offset. Front panels must retain the standard manufacturers grill and headlight apertures, albeit blanked off and in replica form. The front panels may not be bonded together to form one unit. The boot-lid\tail-gate, may be split at window level or may include rear lights, bonnet and doors may be replaced by a lightweight material, if doors are replaced, the replacement units must be of kevlar. Any replacement panel must resemble the same profile and style as the original fitting. Drivers are urged to securely fix bonnet and doors with overlock clips or similar so that there is no possibility of them coming off during racing. The suspension must not protrude beyond the silhouette of the car. The wheelbase of the car must remain standard plus or minus 2". Apart from the air filter any holes in the bonnet must be forward of the engine timing cover. Spoilers and wings are permitted within the following confines: Front spoilers and rear wings or spoilers must remain within the horizontal and vertical confines of the original body shell, including moulded bumpers. Any spoilers fitted to the roof must not exceed 6" above the roof line. The standard silhouette in side elevation must be retained above the line drawn through the front and rear hubs. No part of the bodywork, including front spoilers, if fitted, may touch the ground when any tyre is deflated. The foam filling of any panels is prohibited. No separate bumpers are allowed. No reinforcement is permitted either structurally or on external panels, that in the opinion of the scrutineers may be classed as armouring. Three 2" inspection holes at the front and rear bumper levels should be drilled. These must be equally spaced between the chassis rails. Continuous straight throughs are not permitted. 3. INTERIOR. All interior trim must be removed. The driver must sit to one side of the centre line of the vehicle. Fuel tanks and batteries must be securely retained behind a fireproofed compartment. If a solid boot floor is retained, a minimum of two holes and a maximum of four holes of two inches in diameter must be drilled into the floor to assist drainage or spillage. The front bulkhead must be made of steel. Apertures may be cut to accommodate engine auxiliaries where necessary. But the bulkhead must be fireproofed (see rules for engine position). Floor must remain in its original plan plus or minus 1" or 25mm and must be made of steel. However, the floor from the front of the rear seat squab to the rear panel may be removed. When rear floors are removed in part or in whole, cars must be fitted with a fully enclosed and effective firewall. Transmission tunnels may be modified to accept various engine\transmission options but the floor pan must remain as complete. Where the prop shaft is above the floor pan and covered with a fibre glass tunnel it must have two reinforced hoops over it of sufficient strength to stop it breaking into the car by accident. The front passenger compartment must not be boxed in.

Shoulder belts with a sternum protection latch are highly recommended. The sub-strap must be used at all times and all belts must connect to the quick release buckle. In the case of NASCAR lever latch buckles it is advisable to fit a secondary means of detent to prevent overall sleeves accidentally unhooking buckles during racing. A small section of Tubegrip elasticated bandage slid over the hooked buckle serves this purpose. Special attention must be paid to the condition of seat belts and fixings once fitted. An extra bar is to be fitted to roll cage behind drivers seat approx 4 below shoulder height of driver. Your seat belts may be fixed to this bar. The bar is to be of roll cage material specification.
Following recent research made by leading safety harness manufacturers, new information has been made available with regard to the best way to fit your safety harness, which will further ensure your safety. The netting should have holes not larger than 7.5cm or 3 wide. It should come down level with the steering wheel, and should be flexible and easily removable separate to the movement of the door. · A 1Kg Dry Powder Gauge Fire Extinguisher is highly recommended and if fitted, this should be in a tube with a spring top and should be within easy reach of the driver. Old type BCF (green) type extinguishers are not allowed. 19. COLOURS. Bright colours are recommended and a good quality and finish is mandatory. Childish drawings are not permitted.

24. TRANSPONDERS. Transponders are mandatory and should be working at all times. They should be fitted 1.8 metres back from the front most position of the car. A hole of at least 6 (150mm) square is required in the floor, with the transponder fitted vertically, just below the hole. In the event of a dispute with the transponder result, the Steward of the meeting will make the final decision. Any driver found to have fitted the transponder further forward that the required 1.8 metres will be excluded up from the meeting.
